Use The Size Of Your Space Determine The Pool Tables Size When You Choose

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

If you are getting ready to purchase a new pool table, then you will need a guide to decide the correct size pool tables to fit into your room. A room may appear to be large enough for a pool table, but you should take measurements to be sure you are investing in the correct size table to fit in your room.

Many people ask about the outside dimensions of the table when choosing one to fit their room. This is a mistake, as the more important dimensions are the actual playing area. If you choose a table that will allow for the pool cues to fit into the room according to the playing area, there will be plenty of room for walking around the table.

The actual amount of room will vary by not only table size but also by the length of the cues that you choose to use. If you choose 48 inch cues you can get by with a much smaller room than if you choose to use 58 inch cues.

The playing surface of a seven foot pool table is 38 inches by 76 inches. When allowing for 48 inch pool cues, you need a room that is at least eleven feet three inches by fourteen feet six inches. Larger pool cues can increase the required room size to twelve feet eleven inches by sixteen feet two inches.

For a standard eight foot table with a playing area of 46 inches by 88 inches, the room should be between 11′8″ by 15′4″ and 13′6″ by 17′4″. The smaller dimensions are for 48 inch cues and the larger ones are for the 58 inch cues.

If you choose the even larger nine foot table, your room should be between 12′2″ by 16′4″ and 13′10″ by 18′. Once again, the smaller size room will require use of 48 inch cues while the larger one will allow use of the 58 inch cues.

Once the table size has been determined, you will want to be sure that you choose the largest table that will comfortably fit into the room. This will make your table proportionate to the room and more challenging for you to play.

You will find many other important considerations in choosing a pool table. Just remember that when choosing a table, if it is too large for the room, it is difficult for the players to enjoy the game. Making this choice up front will often help to narrow down the number of tables you have to choose from and make the purchase easier.
